HINTS WHILE IN AND AROUND RED RIVER, NEW MEXICO |
| Red River is way up in the mountains of Northern New Mexico at 8,752 ft. The weather can go from sunny and 70 one minute to freezing cold and hailing the next... So bring cold weather gear and take it with you on rides in the area. The same goes for rain gear. Evening showers appear quickly in the mountains.

| Go slow In the mornings and evenings and watch out for deer, elk and the most dangerous thing in the mountains...Snowbirds in RV's looking at the deer and elk, NOT AT YOU! SERIOUSLY, roads freeze up at night and many curvy spots that sit in shade, morning or evening, can be icy. The mountains themselves, in addition to deer, elk, wind and rain all chuck rocks down the hillsides and onto roads when you least expect it, so... EXPECT IT! Just be careful, nothing ruins a bike trip like a trip to the hospital and a flatbed ride home for the bike...

| If you ride a bike with a carburetor bring extra plugs. There's not much air up here and you could be fouling plugs, depending on your carb and jetting. But don't fret if you do. Ben at the hardware store carries some... |
