Hot springs within a day's ride of Red River New Mexico

If you're lookin' at this website, you probably ride... If you ride, you've probably seen the movie "Easyrider", if not, check back after you rent it... Anyway, the hot springs near Taos, a mere twenty- six miles from Red River are the springs featured in the movie. They are free and located at the bottom of the Rio Grande Gorge...

You too can sit in the same hot springs Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda did and have a similar karmic cleansing, sense-soothing soak...if you take the time to make the hike to the bottom and back.

The springs are along the Rio Grande's edge and the temperature can be regulated by how much cool river water is allowed to enter the shallow pools.

There are half a dozen pools of varying temperatures from "Holy Freakin' Shit That's Hot" to, "Ahhh, I could sit in this all day..."

Soak your brains out, then head back before you're too pooped to climb out of the canyon.

The little piece of paradise below is about 1-2 hours southeast of Red River between Mora and Las Vegas, NM.

You know what's really sweet about these hot springs? They are right next to the road, you can see the springs from the road and your bike from the springs. Careful though, nudity, alcohol and drugs are strictly forbidden and you can be seen by the nearby United World College campus security guys and the local highway patrol. Oops...

These are fantastic springs, free too. It's true what they say about the best things in life being free. A nice road, a warm woman, a hot bath, take time to enjoy the simple pleasures and you will be easy to please.

The springs are five minutes outside of Las Vegas if you get so pooped you need a room, but it's a day trip from Red River if you leave early, soak for a few hours then ride back. You should be back in time for dinner.

If you prefer to pay a few bucks to get a rent-a-towel and a shower afterwards, there is Ojo-Caliente about an hour and a half south west of Red out on a desert mesa. They also have cabins for rent, massages, meals, etc... A nice place to treat yourself for a day.

You can smear mud on yourself, soak in half a dozen different types of mineral pools and soak up some desert sun while you're at it.

.

Ojo is a reasonably priced pay and soak, with lots of nice amenities and a very hippie health conscious feel.

If you like a high-end pampered yuppie kind of spa soak, check out Ten Thousand Waves about two hours south in scenic Santa Fe. The ride from there to Red and back is spectacular and worth taking your time.We suggest an overnighter, but it can be a day trip...

P.S. Pets are welcome at this spa.

More places to soak your butt coming up...
